Two Red Sox Starters Leave Early as Contusions Worry the Lineup
The Boston Red Sox had two players from their starting batting lineup exit Wednesday’s contest with the Chicago White Sox. Early departures aren’t ideal when trying to establish consistency, but that was the reality on this night as both Willson Contreras and Anthony Seigler left before the game concluded.
Contreras was diagnosed with a left foot contusion after fouling a ball hard off the top of his foot. He collapsed to the ground but was able to walk off and was replaced by Romy Gonzalez. He initially appeared to be heading to first base in the following inning, seemingly ready to continue, but the pain forced him to leave the game again.
Seigler exited with a right trap contusion after a collision at home plate with White Sox catcher Kyle Teel, a former Red Sox farmhand. Andruw Monasterio took over at second base for Seigler as the team managed the situation.
Neither injury seems severe, but both are concerning relative to ongoing lineup stability. The Red Sox will monitor the players and adjust as needed in the short term while focusing on managing health and depth.
More notes and updates will follow as the team evaluates impact on the roster and upcoming schedule. Stay tuned for the latest Red Sox coverage, including schedule updates, roster moves, and a full historical look at the franchise’s championships for broader context.
