(Photo by Christina Pahnke/Euroleague Basketball via Getty Images) While there still hasn’t been any commitments for UNC basketball’s 2027 class, there has been more than enough activity on the recruiting trail. The latest of such activity involves five-star prospect Nasir Anderson — he was supposed to visit USC this week, but instead has canceled that trip and will be in Chapel Hill today for his official visit. Anderson is a 6’3 point guard that currently plays for Prolific Prep in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. He is the fourth-best point guard in the country according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings, and he is one of two point guards that Michael Malone is after from this class. The other player that Malone is after is Beckham Black, who is the best overall player in the country. UNC has been in the running for Anderson since June 27th, 2025. While Hubert Davis was the one to initially offer the talented point guard, Michael Malone was more than happy to continue recruiting him for what will ultimately be his first recruiting class as a college head coach. Anderson has trimmed his list of schools down to 10: UNC, UConn, Providence, Syracuse, Indiana, Florida, Georgia, Tennessee, USC, and Virginia. What is worth noting is that the Trojans weren’t the only school to suddenly have their official visit with Anderson canceled — he also canceled his visit with Syracuse that was supposed to happen this past weekend. Does this mean that UNC is closing in on him, and a commitment may be imminent? It is hard to say in this moment, but it is fair to say that some of these cancellations we could hear some notable news fairly soon. Going back to Beckham Black, he just had his official visit to UNC this past weekend. Unlike Anderson, Black has not released a list of finalists, so his recruitment is still pretty wide open. It’s worth wondering whether or not Michael Malone has been given enough resources to land commitments from two top-ten players, but it’s also worth noting that he is he outstanding offers for most of the top-10 prospects in this class. We seem to already be living in different times compared to the Hubert Davis era, but of course offers don’t matter if you strike out on all of those guys. That is why landing either Anderson or Black would be huge.
