Shane Sdao, a native of Montgomery, Texas, attended Lake Creek High School in Montgomery, a campus that opened in 2018 to relieve crowding at the city’s other high school, Montgomery High School. A left-handed pitcher, Sdao helped transform Lake Creek’s budding baseball program into a consistent winner. In the program’s inaugural season, the Lions finished 7-7. When Sdao wore varsity colors in 2021 and 2022, the team posted records of 20-12-1 and 23-6, respectively, advancing to the Texas Region III-5A quarterfinals on both occasions. Throughout those two years, the southpaw earned First All-District Team honors, was named to the Second All-Greater Houston Team, and received Texas District 5A All-State honorable mention as a senior.
Despite the accolades, Sdao was not seen as a high-profile draft prospect. Scouts and evaluators gave him limited attention due to a repertoire that many deemed unflashy and his relatively advanced age for a draft pick. With a commitment already in place to Texas A&M, and after receiving no interest from MLB teams in the 2022 Draft, Sdao enrolled at Texas A&M.
As a freshman with the Aggies, Sdao appeared in 22 games, starting two and pitching in relief in the remaining 20. He posted a 4.78 ERA across 43.1 innings, yielding 54 hits, issuing 15 walks, and recording 46 strikeouts. His sophomore year followed a similar pattern, with five starting assignments and 15 relief appearances. He improved in most statistical categories, finishing with a 2.96 ERA in 48.2 innings, allowing 42 hits, walking nine, and fanning 55.
Texas A&M advanced to the 2024 College World Series finals, ultimately falling to the University of Tennessee, but Sdao did not pitch in the championship run after injuring his elbow while starting a Super Regionals game against the University of Oregon. The injury proved catastrophic: a UCL tear requiring Tommy John surgery. He redshirted the 2025 season, missing the year entirely. Even while sidelined, Sdao drew lucrative bonus offers from multiple MLB teams eager to sign him during his rehabilitation, but he chose to return to Texas A&M in 2026.
His redshirt junior season did not deliver the results hoped for. On the mound, his stuff largely resembled pre-surgery levels, but the outcomes were difficult. In 17 appearances, with 13 starts, Sdao finished the year with a 7.03 ERA over 71.2 innings, allowing 98 hits, issuing 20 walks, and striking out 83. He also surrendered 16 home runs, highlighting ongoing challenges with long ball control.
Physically, the 22-year-old Sdao stands 6’3” and weighs 185 pounds. He delivers from a three-quarters arm slot, with a deliberate delivery that emphasizes a long leg kick and a full, extended arm action through the back. This mechanics profile, combined with his experience and resilience, continues to shape how teams evaluate his upside and potential contributions at higher levels.
