The 2026 MLB Draft wrapped up Sunday evening, as 681 players from across the United States were selected by the league’s 30 teams. More than a dozen draftees have ties to Connecticut, whether they’re natives of the Nutmeg State, local college standouts, or alumni of the state’s various collegiate summer league programs. Here is a look at all 13 Connecticut-connected players chosen in this year’s draft.
Ryan Oshinskie (Fairfield) – No. 192 overall: Oshinskie is the highest-drafted Connecticut native in this year’s class, heading to the Milwaukee Brewers in the sixth round to cap a remarkable ascent from the Ivy League to the majors. The 6-foot-3 right-hander grew up in Stamford and starred at nearby Fairfield Prep, earning two All-Southern Connecticut Conference selections. The Brewers previewed a player with significant upside even after Oshinskie missed his entire 2026 college season at Brown due to injury, guided by a standout Cape Cod Baseball League showing the prior summer. He posted a stellar 1.93 ERA over 13 appearances with the Orleans Firebirds, nearly matching the 1.20 ERA he posted in 2024 with the NECBL’s Bristol Blues.
Matt Scott (Redding) – No. 243 overall: Scott will begin his MLB journey with ample experience in high-pressure moments, having helped Georgia reach the College World Series recently. The Redding native went 7-0 with the team’s fourth-lowest WHIP over 20 appearances, mostly in relief, though he surrendered four runs in five innings in Georgia’s CWS defeat to Oklahoma. Named GametimeCT’s Player of the Year in 2022, Scott led Joel Barlow to a Class M state championship and enrolled at Stanford that fall. He earned second-team Freshman All-America honors and enjoyed three productive seasons with the Cardinal before transferring to Georgia for his final year of eligibility. The Cleveland Guardians selected him in the eighth round on Sunday.
Matthew Buccierro (Ridgefield) – No. 285 overall: Buccierro adds another chapter to Fairfield University’s program history as he becomes just the third Stag drafted in the first 10 rounds in the MLB Draft era and the first in more than four decades. He is the Fairfield leader in home runs, RBIs, total bases, runs scored, triples, and walks, was named MAAC Player of the Year after posting a .668 slugging percentage and guiding the Stags to the conference championship game. Prior to Fairfield, Buccierro earned a 2022 GametimeCT All-State nod at Ridgefield, where he posted an impressive .597 on-base percentage. He spent time with the Norwich Sea Unicorns of the FCBL after his freshman year and will join the Chicago White Sox.
Zach Peters (North Haven) – No. 295 overall: Peters soared onto MLB Draft radar this spring with an impressive run of form that highlighted his development and consistency on the mound. He is part of a Connecticut pipeline that continues to produce pitchers capable of competing at high levels, and his selection adds to a growing list of local talents who have found pathways to professional baseball through strong performances at the collegiate level and in summer leagues.
