2027 NFL Draft Scouting Notebook: Clemson’s early round WRs, another Iowa defender, and a massive linebacker riser

Several top prospects for the 2027 NFL Draft impressed with their film this week, and there are a few more early names worth knowing as the summer scouting season begins to solidify early evaluations ahead of the 2026 college football season. Each week I’m putting together a scouting notebook series that shares thoughts on players you should keep an eye on, and this week I focused my film study on five players, with the bulk coming from the offensive side of the ball. There are several I’m excited about, though a couple raise questions that warrant closer inspection.
First up, Clemson features a pair of talented wide receivers entering the 2026 season, TJ Moore and Bryant Wesco. I did a deep dive on both, and each carries high early grades from the NFL. Of the two, I’m higher on Moore, and his floor stands out as the factor that gives him the edge over Wesco.
Wesco’s game has translatable elements. He demonstrates standout downfield speed, plus long-range acceleration and explosive movements in and out of breaks, enabling him to create consistent separation. In terms of ceiling, Wesco has the higher upside as a pure separator and route runner. When he’s on his game, he cleanly transitions in and out of breaks and thrives particularly in the intermediate areas of the field.
My main concern with Wesco—an issue I’ve come to value more over the past year—is his lack of overall play strength and his ability to win through contact. Listed at 6-foot-2 and about 180 pounds, Wesco carries good height and length yet struggles to play through contact down the field and to finish catches at the point of attack. There are also some noticeable concentration drops on his tape currently. While those can be addressed, pairing the drop issues with limited physicality gives me serious pause. He could carve out a niche as a deep threat in his current frame, but unless he adds significant strength this offseason, I’ll be lower on Wesco than some evaluators.
Moore, meanwhile, also needs to add some mass. He checks in at a bit over 6-foot-3 and around 194 pounds, but he showed magnet-like hands. His ability to win at the catch point, extend outside his frame, and pluck the ball with consistent reliability is outstanding. Moore possesses some of the strongest hands I’ve seen in the 2027 class and ranks among the best I’ve evaluated in recent years. Despite his size, he moves with smoothness in and out of breaks. He isn’t as explosive as Wesco getting in and out of his breaks, but Moore demonstrates solid hip synchronization and a refined sense of how to create separation without relying on pure burst. His nuanced use of head fakes and leverage attacks gives him a high floor as a starting-caliber NFL wide receiver.
On the offensive line, the discussion turns to Austin Siereveld, who is a promising tackle prospect with a lot to like. He shows the kind of movement skills and length that teams covet on the edge, with footwork and hand placement that help him handle a variety of pass-rush challenges. Siereveld’s mechanics look clean enough to translate to a professional level, and his versatility to slide inside as needed could provide additional NFL value. He demonstrates awareness of matchup nuances and shows the ability to anchor when required, while maintaining enough twitch and tempo to affect the game in the running game as a run blocker. There are still refinements to be made—namely adding mass to handle more physical power at the line and continuing to sharpen his hand placement and balance under load—but the overall package suggests a future starter with potential for more.
Overall, this week’s film session provided a snapshot of a strong receiving corps at Clemson, headlined by Moore and Wesco, each with distinct profiles and developmental trajectories. Moore stands out for his consistent hands and ability to win at the catch point, giving him a high floor as a reliable target with NFL upside. Wesco offers the tantalizing speed and route-running pedigree, but must improve strength and concentration to realize his ceiling as a top-tier starter. On the offensive line, Siereveld offers a solid blend of length, athleticism, and adaptability that could translate to multiple spots along the line, reinforcing the value of versatility for future NFL roles. As the 2026 season approaches, these players will be worth tracking as more evaluative data becomes available and their frames and technique continue to mature.
