Carter Meyer, one of the top Americans eligible for the 2027 NHL Draft, has signed with the Québec Remparts in the QMJHL for the 2026-27 season. Meyer had spent last season with the U.S. National Team Development Program and had to secure a release from USA Hockey in order to join the QMJHL club.FloHockey’s 2026 NHL Draft CoverageBoston University Lands Commitment From Top American Prospect MeyerMeyer is widely considered the favorite to be the first American off the board in next June’s 2027 NHL Draft, projected as a high first-rounder. The son of former NHL player Freddy Meyer is committed to Boston University. His older brother Freddy played for the Remparts last season and will remain with the team next season.AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementQuébec GM Simon Gagné took a big risk during the 2025 QMJHL Draft when he selected Carter 17th overall in the first round. The Remparts also managed to sign James Scantlebury, who they took ninth overall in that same draft, this offseason after Scantlebury spent last season with the Chicago Steel. Two high-risk picks have paid off in the Remparts landing both players on top of Thomas Charbonneau, who they picked at No. 4 and played his rookie season with the club in 2025-26.On top of these new additions, the Remparts are expected to return Maddox Dagenais, who was selected 16th overall in the first round of the 2026 NHL Draft by the St. Louis Blues.Adding Meyer to the mix puts a lot more expectations on Québec to be a major threat in the QMJHL next season.AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementCarter Meyer split time with the NTDP’s U.S. National Under-17 and Under-18 Teams. He also appeared in the World Under-18 Championship as an underager. In 70 games between the two NTDP squads, he recorded 70 points.Meyer was a top scorer at the World Under-17 Hockey Challenge with 10 points in just four games, finishing third among all players. Team USA finished that tournament in third place. At the U18 Worlds, he had five points in five games as the U.S. exited the tournament in the quarterfinals. The NTDP squads play a mixed schedule, but Meyer saw action in 42 games in USHL league play, producing 37 points over that span. That ranked second among all U17 players in the league last season, with only Scantlebury scoring more total points.AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementPrior to going to the program, Meyer was a dominant prep player, producing 41 goals and 70 points in 28 games for The Rivers School.Meyer is the highest profile departure from the NTDP before graduating from the program in some time. Last year, JP Hurlbert departed and became the second player to leave the NTDP for the CHL prior to his U18 season to be selected in the first round of the NHL Draft, joining Emerson Etem in that category. Meyer appears poised to join that list.In year’s past, players have left a year early to attend NCAA programs including Cullen Potter (Arizona State), Noah Hanifin (Boston College) and Zach Weren
