​The Oregon Ducks have been hunting a quarterback in the 2028 recruiting cycle, and one of their top choices could make a decision very soon.Josiah Boyd, the No. 2 quarterback in the 2028 class, has cut his recruiting list down to just three schools: Oregon, Kentucky and UCLA. The passer from Moreno Valley is closest to UCLA, where he visited last weekend, but the Ducks have been seen as the frontrunners since the summer, and have already locked in a visit.Oregon will get the last word, as Boyd will take a visit to Eugene for the Ducks’ Friday night game against Portland State. Boyd hasn’t set a date for a commitment yet, but he appears to be close. Boyd also visited LSU during Week 1, but has not received an offer from the Tigers. Tristin Gaines, the No. 8 quarterback in the class, has grown closer to Oregon after visiting for the Week 1 game against Boise State. Boyd is only rising as a prospect, however, and the Ducks have maintained contact with him.The 6-foot-4 passer has been watching the Ducks and was disappointed in the team’s loss at Oklahoma State last weekend, but he is also looking forward to how the Ducks respond this week.“They are so much better than what they have shown so far,” Boyd told Rivals. “But I think the coaches can get it together. There’s still a lot of time to turn things around, and I think they’ll figure it all out soon.”The Ducks do have another connection to Boyd. His cousin, Devon Blackmon, was recruited and enrolled with the Ducks as a wide receiver in 2011. After redshirting with an injury, he eventually wound up at BYU. However, Oregon quickly became Boyd’s dream school.As a sophomore at Vista Del Lago High School, Boyd threw for 2,920 yards and 19 touchdowns with three interceptions. He also ran for 462 yards and nine more scores. So far this season, in four games, Boyd has thrown for 602 yards and six touchdowns, while rushing for six more.
