3 College QBs Falling off the Vikings’ Draft Radar

By admin — In News — September 15, 2026

The 2027 NFL Draft quarterback class is historic.Does this statement sound familiar to anyone? Every year, fans declare the quarterback class as outstanding. However, not all prospects live up to the hype, and some end up plummeting down draft boards. One team closely following the quarterback class is the Minnesota Vikings. They will be in the market for a signal-caller next offseason and currently have a vast board of quarterbacks. However, that will drop quickly as some prospects disappoint.Right now, these three quarterbacks’ stocks are dropping because they’ve had an underwhelming campaign. There’s still time to improve, but they are in danger of falling out of contention for the Vikings.Dante MooreDante Moore is a great quarterback, but he’s shown an inability to show up in the big moments. He struggled immensely against Indiana last year and was disappointing in Oregon’s latest loss to Oklahoma State. Now, fans are beginning to wonder if he can lead a team deep into the postseason.Statistically, Moore hasn’t been bad, throwing for 569 yards, five touchdowns, and no interceptions. However, his processing has been slow and the Ducks offense has been mediocre, barely beating Boise State and getting upset in week two.Moore’s season isn’t over, and he still has plenty of time to improve his stock. But he’ll be under a microscope, and every mistake he makes will be magnified. He must bounce back and lead Oregon this season to reestablish himself as a first-round prospect.Jaden CraigJaden Craig wasn’t viewed as a first-round prospect heading into the season after transferring to TCU from Harvard, but he was a potential breakout player who could lead the Horned Frogs into Big 12 title contention. However, he floundered against North Carolina in week zero and is dropping down draft boards.Craig did bounce back in week two against Grambling State, throwing for 391 yards and four touchdowns. But scouts know he can dominate lower-level competition; look at any game he played at Harvard. His main question is how he fares against Power Five competition, which currently isn’t well. There’s still plenty of time for Craig to rebound. He will play a full conference slate, and this conversation could be entirely different in the offseason. But so far, he’s dropping down draft boards.John MateerJohn Mateer’s an uber-explosive player, but at a certain point, the excuses run out. Last year, he rushed back from hand surgery, causing a lackluster campaign. Now, he has another subpar performance in Oklahoma’s loss against Michigan, and serious concerns are emerging.Mateer’s accuracy is far too inconsistent for any first-round hype right now. He’s a fun player whose legs are dynamic, but he’s a raw passer who struggles against elite secondaries. Barring any major changes, he’s a day-three quarterback whose stock is slipping with each uninspiring performance. Mateer must improve quickly for the Vikings to consider drafting him.
