3 position battles to watch at Seahawks training camp

The Seattle Seahawks will have their rookie class report to training camp at the Virginia Mason Athletic Center in Renton on July 17, with the veterans joining on July 24. That arrival marks the moment when head coach Mike Macdonald can begin pressing for real competition across multiple positions. With that in mind, here are three position battles at Seahawks training camp to watch closely.
First, the right guard spot is currently held by Anthony Bradford, who is firmly entrenched as the starter. Bradford is entering a contract year, however, which means the competition to back him up could reveal the franchise’s long-term plans at the line. Two rookies, Beau Stephens and 2024 third-round pick Christian Haynes, are contending for reserve reps. The victor in this backup battle could eventually become a long-term starter as the roster evolves toward 2027.
In the secondary, veteran safety Julian Love brings the most experience to the position room. Sophomore Nick Emmanwori is expected to take a meaningful step forward while offering versatility in coverage and run support. Since Coby Bryant departed in free agency, Ty Okada looks primed for an in-house promotion into a more elevated role. The Seahawks also drafted safety Bud Clark with the 64th overall pick, and his talent gives him a real chance to challenge Okada and push for meaningful snaps.
The Seahawks made the decision to part ways with Riq Woolen in free agency, leaving Devon Witherspoon and Josh Jobe as the boundary starters. Behind them, a crowded field will determine the depth chart and reserve roles. Nehemiah Pritchett appears to be the current favorite to claim the primary reserve spot, but the team also added three cornerbacks in the draft, including potential sleepers Julian Neal and Andre Fuller, who could push the incumbents for roles on the boundary and in the nickel package.
