And with the victory, the first-place Sox (57-51) extended their lead in the American League to two games over the idle Cleveland Guardians (56-54).Here are three takeaways from Thursday.1. Nine wasn’t enough — again.The teams played late into the night Wednesday, going 12 innings before Edgar Quero’s walk-off single gave the Sox a 6-5 victory.The teams were right back at it Thursday afternoon with another extended contest.There was no score through nine innings. The Yankees struck first in the 10th with a Trent Grisham RBI single. The Sox answered in the bottom of the 10th with pinch hitter Andrew Benintendi’s RBI single on a grounder through the drawn-in infield.“To be honest I was trying to hit a fly ball, hit it to the outfield and kind of got away with it,” Benintendi said.The Yankees had runners on second and third with two outs in the 11th, but Sox reliever Seranthony Domínguez escaped the jam by inducing a groundout.“I want to highlight Seranthony and the job he did as a guy who has changed roles a little bit and has worked his way back and came through in a huge spot,” manager Will Venable said. “That’s as big as it gets right there, runner on third base and got the job done.”The Sox loaded the bases with one out in the bottom of the 11th. Fernando Cruz struck out Colson Montgomery. But Peters then drew the four-pitch walk to bring in Chase Meidroth with the game-ending run.“It’s tough to be patient, especially you want to be that guy to walk it off, get a walk-off hit,” Peters said. “Especially with that pitcher, we’ve seen him before. He’s one of those types you’ve really got to be patient.“His splitter is really nasty. That’s what I was expecting him to throw me. I was just going to tighten up the zone to shrink it and try to get my pitch.”The Sox have nine walk-off wins this season.“A tough offensive day leading up to that where (Yankees starter Ryan) Weathers did a really good job getting us to expand below the zone, a lot of soft ground balls that we saw today,” Venable said. “We just kept grinding. We had to find ways to push a couple across and just the willingness to go out and get it done was the difference today.”2. Sean Burke wrapped up an impressive July in spectacular fashion.The first two batters of Thursday’s game reached via catcher’s interference and a walk.Sox starter Sean Burke shook off the early traffic, striking out the next two hitters and getting a groundout to end the inning.“Just being able to get through that and settle
