‘I want to officially say I’m a first-team player’

Blackburn Rovers midfielder Kristi Montgomery may have committed his future to the club with a new contract, but he insists there is still plenty for him to accomplish. The 22-year-old Leeds-born Scotland Under-21 international signed a long-term deal on Tuesday after making 21 Championship appearances last season. Although he has started the last four matches, Montgomery feels he is still in the process of breaking through.
“I feel like I’m part of the group, but I haven’t done enough to say I’m an established first-team player yet,” Montgomery said. “I’ve got the contract, which is obviously a positive, but I want to make sure I’m playing week in, week out to truly claim a first-team spot.” He reflected on the limited game time he had last season, noting that there were only brief 10-minute spells here and there. He acknowledged that many young players have progressed by seizing opportunities, and he is determined to replicate that progress for himself this season.
“I want to ensure that this season I can get as much game time as I possibly can,” he added.
The interview with BBC Radio Lancashire provides a deeper insight into Montgomery’s mindset, his development path, and his aspirations for Blackburn Rovers. For those following the club, this remains a key storyline as Montgomery seeks to convert potential and minutes on the pitch into a sustained first-team role. As Blackburn looks to build on last season’s performances, Montgomery’s growth will be watched closely by supporters who hope to see him cement his place in the squad and contribute to the club’s ambitions.
In broader Blackburn Rovers news, fans are encouraged to stay tuned for more analysis, updates, and fan perspectives as the new season unfolds, with Montgomery’s contract signing marking a significant milestone in his ongoing journey with the club. This season promises to be pivotal for him as he aims to maximize his playing time and establish himself as a regular contributor at Ewood Park.
