NEW DELHI: Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, India’s teenage batting prodigy, enjoyed an unforgettable off-field moment as he attended the Wimbledon 2026 men’s singles final between Jannik Sinner and Alexander Zverev at the storied All England Club in London on Sunday. In a dramatic match, Sinner claimed his second Wimbledon title by defeating Zverev 6-7 (7), 7-6 (2), 6-3, 6-4 in the championship clash. The 15-year-old, who recently made his India debut, joined fellow India opener Abhishek Sharma at the Centre Court, with former India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh also in attendance to witness the action up close.
Sooryavanshi cut a dapper figure in a formal black blazer paired with a white shirt, a striped tie, and tinted sunglasses, drawing admiration from fans for his fresh look. He admitted, though, that his outfit had come together at the last minute. “Nahi kuch kiya nahi, but jaldi jaldi mein bas jo mila mujhe mein maine Abhishek bhai se bolke arrange karaya and daal kar aaya hu,” he laughed, giving credit to Abhishek Sharma for helping him secure his ensemble.
During a candid chat, the youngster revealed his long-standing interest in tennis, noting that he has followed the sport for several years and grew up admiring two of tennis’ greatest legends. “I have been following tennis for four or five years now. I followed Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic while growing up. Abhi bhi Djokovic bohot pasand hai,” he told Star Sports. He also expressed admiration for Carlos Alcaraz, while predicting that Jannik Sinner would lift the Wimbledon trophy this year.
“As for today’s outcome, I really like Carlos Alcaraz among the current generation, but he’s not playing this year. As I watched the tournament, I was impressed by how Jannik Sinner dominated. So, hopefully, he will go on to win the final today,” he added.
Watching Wimbledon live for the first time was a milestone for the precocious cricketer. “Of course, I wanted to watch the finals match. It’s my first experience watching live, and it’s been great to observe how players approach a final,” Sooryavanshi said in an interview with JioStar.
When asked which doubles partner he would choose from a tennis perspective, Sooryavanshi opted for his India opening partner. “I will go with Abhishek bhaiya. He is my opening partner in international cricket. I really enjoy batting with him a lot, so I would pick him as my doubles tennis partner as well,” he stated.
Sooryavanshi was already in the United Kingdom following his senior India debut in the recently concluded T20I series against England. At 15 years and 99 days, he became India’s youngest international debutant, surpassing the record previously held by cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar.
India’s five-match T20I series against England ended in a 0-4 defeat, underscoring the challenges faced by the team while continuing to celebrate the emergence of young talents like Sooryavanshi. As he navigates early stardom both on the cricket field and in the limelight of the world’s most famous tennis stage, the teenager’s cross-sport ambitions and infectious enthusiasm have captivated fans and commentators alike.
