Getty Images exclusive: We asked for your views on Newcastle captain Bruno Guimaraes asking to leave the club amid interest from Premier League champions Arsenal. Here are some of your comments.
Jona: Bruno wanting to leave feels like an unavoidable byproduct of us selling our best players—Isak, Gordon, and Tonali. While he would be the ideal captain to steer us through our rebuild, you can understand him seeking a new challenge and the chance to compete for titles. We’ll just have to secure the best possible fee and be smart in the market to replace him.
Samuel: This could sting even more than Isak. The club captain has always appeared deeply committed to the project since arriving. There was a sense that Gordon and Tonali moves were somewhat predictable, but this one catches you off guard. I warned last year that there would be a lot of work to shift player perceptions of the club after Isak’s exit, and it’s clear there’s still work to do.
Gordon: I’m saddened but not surprised. Bruno has been the engine of the team, a superb leader who will be missed. I don’t fault him for seeking a bigger, more successful club. I hope the deal is concluded quickly and without bitterness.
Dave: To put it bluntly, this is a disaster. Since he arrived, Bruno has been the beating heart and the most creative force in midfield. Without him, there’s a noticeable drop in passion, creativity, and forward momentum. We must keep him or risk a season without Europe turning into a season without hope.
Tony: There’s a clear reason top players are leaving. The team has stalled under Howe, and we’re not in a position to compete for the biggest prizes or to attract elite talent. Bruno has been outstanding for the club, and I’m glad to see him chasing silverware at a top club. His attitude and love for the Toon are unquestioned, but leadership and PSR seem to have driven us to a point where this has happened.
