   | Source: Lastwordonsports.com – Sue Levine, EditorWith the NFL trade deadline not too far off, several crowded backfields could create opportunities for deals. Injuries around the league could also push contenders to search for proven depth.Several running backs who could be traded already find themselves fighting for touches. Others could become available if struggling teams decide to sell at the deadline.4 Running Backs Who Could Be Traded SoonHere are four situations worth watching:Arizona Cardinals BackfieldArizona has a deep running back room. The Cardinals drafted Jeremiyah Love third overall and also signed Tyler Allgeier during the offseason. Love is their long-term option, while Allgeier gives Arizona a proven veteran to pair with him.James Conner is the most realistic trade candidate once he gets healthy. He brings experience, power, and the ability to handle a significant workload if another team needs help.Trey Benson and Bam Knight also give Arizona plenty of depth. Allgeier could receive some calls as well, although moving him feels less likely. Arizona may want to keep a reliable veteran around Love. The Cardinals could also become light sellers if their season continues heading in the wrong direction. With so much depth at the position, moving one of their veteran backs would make plenty of sense.Sep 27, 2026; Santa Clara, California, USA; Arizona Cardinals running back Jeremiyah Love (4) reacts after scoring a touchdown San Francisco 49ers in the second half at Levi’s Stadium. D’Andre Swift remains ahead of him, while Kyle Monangai also has a significant role in the Bears’ backfield. That leaves Johnson with very little work. However, Johnson still has plenty of upside. He brings size and power and could help another team in short-yardage situations. A contender looking for a physical backup may view Johnson as a low-cost option who deserves more touches.Chicago could eventually decide that getting a late-round pick makes more sense than keeping him buried on the depth chart.Aug 29, 2026; Nashville, Tennessee, USA; Tennessee Titans cornerback Keydrain Calligan (29) tackles Chicago Bears running back Roschon Johnson (23) short of the goal line during the first half at Nissan Stadium. That makes touches difficult to find for Tracy. The bigger question is where New York’s season goes from here. The Giants lost Jaxson Dart for the season, which completely changes the outlook of their offense. New York responded by trading for J.J. McCarthy, showing that it still wants to compete rat
