49ers Insider Issues Clear Statement on Raiders’ Maxx Crosby

By admin — In News — July 13, 2026

Many fans hope the San Francisco 49ers will make a bold trade that could push them firmly into Super Bowl conversation, and one name that keeps turning up in speculation is Las Vegas Raiders pass rusher Maxx Crosby. A move for Crosby likely wouldn’t happen before the 2026 NFL season, but if the veteran edge rusher demonstrates his usual disruptive impact early and the Raiders stumble out of the gate, talk of a Crosby-to-San Francisco deal could gain real momentum.
Beyond the 49ers’ need for additional pass-rush help to keep pace with rival defenses in the division, one analytical voice from SI, Grant Cohn, argues that Crosby would bring value to San Francisco that goes beyond sacks and pressures. In a July 12 mailbag piece, Cohn suggested Crosby’s leadership and work ethic could become a cornerstone of the 49ers’ culture, a factor he sees as crucial for any potential trade. He contrasted Crosby with defensive tackle Jalen Carter, noting Carter’s talent but questioning his consistency and character. Cohn pointed out that Crosby, despite dealing with an injury, delivered notable numbers for the Raiders last season and could be a stabilizing force for a front that already features Nick Bosa and youngsters like Osa Odighizuwa. Cohn argued that Crosby’s presence could elevate the 49ers’ pass rush into the upper echelon of the league, potentially giving them the tools to handle the Seahawks and the Rams more effectively.
Crosby’s 2025 season reflected his high-impact potential. He played 935 defensive snaps, earning a 79.7 overall PFF defensive grade, and amassed 53 total pressures, including 10 sacks, along with 31 hurries, 12 quarterback hits, and a forced fumble. In run defense, he contributed 46 solo tackles. While he has dealt with injury considerations, Crosby demonstrated a sustained level of play that teams on the hunt for a proven difference-maker would covet. Cohn’s assessment emphasized that the 49ers’ ability to pressure the quarterback and disrupt opposing offenses would be significantly enhanced with Crosby on the field, especially within a division that features dynamic passers and agile offensive lines.
As for Crosby’s own outlook, he has been candid about his recovery and readiness for training camp. During the June 30 edition of The Rush With Maxx Crosby, the Raiders star offered an upbeat and forward-looking update. He described the past few weeks as highly productive and goal-oriented, noting that a substantial portion of his rehab would soon wrap up, allowing him to move more freely. Crosby expressed excitement about the progress, saying he was feeling ahead of schedule and like himself again, with renewed energy and a spring in his step. He indicated that he was increasingly capable of performing at a high level as he neared full readiness.
If the Raiders and 49ers were to explore a trade, several factors would come into play. Crosby’s age and pedigree as one of the league’s premier edge defenders would attract significant interest, but San Francisco would also consider how to structure an eventual deal, including compensation, extension terms, and matching the 49ers’ defensive philosophy with Crosby’s style. For the 49ers, the potential ethical and practical implications of such a move would involve not only on-field performance but also how a veteran like Crosby would assimilate into the team’s locker room culture and scheme. For Crosby, any talk of a midseason or offseason move would hinge on the Raiders’ trajectory, his rehabilitation progress, and how the franchise envisions its competitive window in the near term.
In the meantime, the NFL landscape continues to churn with rumors and projections. While a Crosby-to-San Francisco trade remains speculative and contingent on many moving parts, proponents of the idea argue that adding a player of Crosby’s caliber could redefine the 49ers’ edge rush approach and fortify their defense against a stacked division. The coming weeks will likely see more analysis, interviews, and evaluations as teams weigh the risks and rewards of pursuing one of the league’s most productive and influential defenders.
