Lewis Steele is “99%” confident that Liverpool will sign at least one more forward during the summer transfer window. The Reds appeared to be closing in on Yan Diomande, but the RB Leipzig winger indicated a preference for Paris Saint-Germain, seemingly ending their pursuit. Still, Liverpool have secured Victor Munoz from Osasuna, adding to their attacking options.
As Fabrizio Romano has noted, PSG’s Bradley Barcola remains a top target for Anfield as the Merseyside club looks to replace the legendary Mo Salah after his departure at the end of last season. During a recent appearance on The Redmen TV, Steele was asked by Dan Clubbe whether Liverpool would definitely sign another winger this summer. He responded with a candid wager: “If I say 100%, I’ll get hounded out of Anfield by the fans the next time I’m there if they don’t! Yeah, I’m 99% [sure] they’ve got to sign a winger. You can’t let the best player of the last decade, and fourth in the all-time list, leave and not replace him.”
Steele added that while Liverpool did sign Victor Munoz, the plan reportedly was to add two forwards. He suggested Munoz was the second-choice forward and admitted it was disappointing to miss out on Diomande, noting that Liverpool had bid around £80m for the France international a few weeks earlier. “They’ve got the money to do it, and I’d be very surprised if they don’t sign a winger,” he said. “They won’t sign someone for the sake of it. There are four or five options they’ve really done the work on, so we can say 99% sure. A winger was always a priority this summer.”
Liverpool are currently well-stocked on the left flank after Munoz’s arrival, alongside Cody Gakpo and Rio Ngoumou, but Salah’s exit has left Federico Chiesa as the only senior, right-sided natural option. That imbalance will be something the club would likely want to address before the window closes. Barcola, who primarily plays on the left but can operate on either wing, would represent a marquee addition if he joins from PSG. As Steele noted, the unsuccessful bid for Diomande indicates the finances are in place for Liverpool to make a big-money offer for Barcola once Diomande’s World Cup commitments have concluded, in the hope of pressuring his current club to negotiate.
There are still nearly two months remaining in the summer window, which should give Liverpool ample time to bring in at least one more winger while also addressing other squad priorities, such as adding a versatile defender to bolster depth and cover across positions. The ongoing transfer chatter suggests Liverpool are intent on strengthening the wide areas and ensuring sufficient cover on the right, with Barcola remaining a prominent option on their radar.
