Christopher Bell has seen his position in the NASCAR Cup Series standings slip as this season has proven to be a rough one for him. The Joe Gibbs Racing driver now sits 12th after a sequence of misfortunes, beginning with a broken wrist sustained at Michigan International Speedway. At Michigan, Chase Elliott lost control of the No. 9 car, colliding with Bell and sending him into the wall. Bell then injured his wrist at Michigan, ran out of fuel at Pocono Raceway, and watched his car explode in San Diego alongside Brent Crews. Clearly, things have not gone his way.
There is still time for Bell to recover health and mount a comeback in the Chase. If he can win a few races and gain momentum, he could position himself to contend for a championship. For now, Bell needs to start building momentum as he heads toward Sonoma Raceway. This article originally appeared on Motorsports Wire with the headline noting Bell’s drop in points following his wrist injury at Michigan for SEO purposes.
