The Pittsburgh Steelers are counting down to the 2026 NFL regular season with full steam ahead momentum, looming 77 days until they host the Atlanta Falcons on September 13. In celebration of the countdown, Steelers Wire takes a look back at the history of the No. 77 jersey and highlights which players wore it best.
Current No. 77 on the Steelers roster is tackle Broderick Jones. Drafted 14th overall in 2023, Jones has faced a significant neck injury late in the 2025 season, and there are ongoing questions about whether he will be at 100 percent when the 2026 season begins.
Here are the last five Steelers to wear No. 77: Broderick Jones (2023–present), Jesse Davis (2022), John Leglue (2021), Derwin Gray (2020), and Marcus Gilbert (2011–2018).
The best No. 77 in Steelers history is offensive tackle Marvel Smith. Drafted in the second round by the Steelers in 2000, Smith played nine seasons with the team, including eight in Pittsburgh. He appeared in 111 games with 108 starts and earned a Pro Bowl nod in 2004. Smith helped lead the Steelers to two Super Bowl titles and is widely regarded as the greatest No. 77 in franchise history.
