Japan’s Ai Ogura secured his first MotoGP victory in the Netherlands, as Marco Bezzecchi was taken to hospital after a heavy crash on lap three at over 200 km/h. Bezzecchi, who had been leading the championship entering the Assen race, received treatment at the circuit’s medical centre before being transferred for further examinations. His Aprilia team reported that the 27-year-old rider was conscious and without major physical or neurological damage, though he was experiencing intense pain after the crash. Ogura, riding for Trackhouse, overtook his teammate Raul Fernandez late to clinch the win by more than two seconds, marking the first Japanese MotoGP victory since Makoto Tamada in 2004. Ogura, 25, expressed his joy, saying, “It’s fantastic, I don’t have much to say but I’m really very happy. Many thanks to my team.” The result reversed Saturday’s sprint race, which Fernandez had won by 0.362 seconds. Jorge Martin, starting from pole, finished third and remains champions leader, with Bezzecchi seven points behind in second and Ogura up to fourth in the standings. Seven-time world champion Marc Marquez faced early pressure from Ducati’s Francesco Bagnaia and KTM’s Pedro Acosta for fourth place, but Acosta retired with a right-hand issue on lap 13, followed by Bagnaia two laps later. Marquez ultimately finished sixth and was penalised a position for exceeding track limits on the final lap.
