Barcelona midfielder Gavi is far from giving up on his quest to secure a bigger role with Spain, even as La Roja edged into the knockout stage by finishing top of their group. The team hasn’t clicked offensively and still looks below their usual standard, leaving opportunities for players like Gavi to prove themselves. The Barcelona youngster, who was a surprise starter under Luis de la Fuente, enjoyed a late-season surge in form for his club but has had limited involvement at the World Cup, aside from the opener.
According to Mundo Deportivo, Gavi remains committed to winning more minutes as Spain progresses. After starting and playing 71 minutes against Cape Verde, he has not featured since, ranking only behind Hamza Abdelkarim in minutes among Barcelona players at the tournament. There is a potential chance for Gavi to return for the Round of 32 clash with Austria, especially with Yeremy Pino and Nico Williams unavailable. The Barcelona midfielder is eager to showcase his quality on the world stage and will not waste any opportunity.
De la Fuente does have other attacking options, including Dani Olmo, who has emerged as a key option in Spain’s pursuit of the right attacking formula. If Gavi gets another chance, he will aim to capitalize and help Spain advance.
