The San Antonio Spurs are entering the upcoming offseason with a noticeably more aggressive approach, aiming to accelerate their championship pursuit after a surprising run to the 2026 NBA Finals anchored by Victor Wembanyama’s MVP-level season. As they explore ways to bolster their roster, the Spurs have emerged as one of the teams frequently connected to Los Angeles Clippers forward John Collins. Clutch Points insider Brett Siegel reports that San Antonio and the Chicago Bulls are two prominent franchises repeatedly mentioned in league circles as serious suitors for Collins. While there has been chatter about a potential fit with the Minnesota Timberwolves, those talks are unlikely to gain traction after Minnesota traded for LaMelo, which would limit what they can offer compared with other teams. The report notes that the Bulls and Spurs are consistently cited as strong suitors for Collins.
For San Antonio, every personnel decision is tied to maximizing Wembanyama’s strengths. Evaluators believe Collins could serve as an ideal frontcourt partner because of his versatility, athleticism, and ability to play both power forward and center. Yet questions remain about Collins’ fit, including his inconsistency from beyond the arc and his average rim protection, which could complicate the Spurs’ blueprint.
Fortunately for the Spurs, they enter the offseason with substantial salary-cap flexibility, giving the front office several routes to craft a competitive offer if they decide Collins is the right fit alongside Wembanyama.
