Choose central Ohio’s boys high school Athlete of the Year for 2025-26

   ​The Dispatch has announced its choices for the top athletes, coaches, and teams of the 2025-26 Central Ohio high school sports season at the Central Ohio High School Sports Awards, held June 22 at Upper Arlington High School. Voters can begin selecting their favorites now, starting with the boys Athlete of the Year. Voting is open through 4 p.m. on July 2, and submissions via email will not be counted. The list of candidates includes: Brady Barnum of Dublin Jerome golf, who earned Division I state tournament medalist honors and helped the Celtics win their 10th state title, plus OCC-Cardinal Golfer of the Year with a 66.75 scoring average; Michael Boyle of Watterson football and wrestling, who went 38-0 to claim his third straight wrestling state title and contributed as an all-state defensive lineman on a football squad that won its second consecutive Division III state title; Jamier Brown of Big Walnut track and field, who swept the 100 and 200 meters and anchored the first-place 400 relay to share the Division II state title with New Philadelphia, with a 200 time and 400 relay setting state records; Levi Davis of Olentangy Orange football, who led the team to its first state title with 2,270 passing yards and 16 touchdowns and 1,114 rushing yards and 19 scores, and who was a finalist for Ohio Mr. Football as well as a Division I district and state co-Offensive Player of the Year; Bryson Gittins of New Albany baseball, who went 10-0 with a 0.86 ERA, 67 strikeouts and 22 walks in 57⅓ innings to help win the Division II state title, earning first-team all-state and district Player of the Year honors; Jake Lloyd of St. Charles swimming and diving, who set or was part of four state or state-meet records, winning the 50 freestyle and 100 breaststroke and swimming on the winning 200 free and 200 medley relays as the Cardinals repeated as Division I state champions; Elijah McCree of Westerville North basketball, who led the Warriors to a Division II state runner-up finish with averages of 20.0 points, 3.8 assists, 3.3 steals and 2.5 rebounds, earning OCC-Capital, district and state Player of the Year honors; Jason Singleton of Columbus Academy basketball, an Ohio Mr. Basketball finalist who led the Vikings to their second straight Division V state final, averaging 21.9 points, 6.2 rebounds, 4.1 assists and 3.7 steals and earning Central Buckeye League, district and state Player of the Year honors; and Parker Van Engelenhoven of Olentangy Liberty baseball, who was Division I state and OCC-Central Player of the Year and district co-Player of the Year after going 6-3 with a 1.72 ERA, 78 strikeouts and 16 walks in 53 innings and hitting .396 with eight doubles, one triple, eight home runs and 31 RBIs.
