Welcome to day nineteen of the 2026 World Cup finals, where we continue to bring you daily round-ups of upcoming matches and recent results. This tournament features 48 nations—the most ever—spanning Mexico, Canada, and the United States. After the group stage, 32 teams advanced to the knockout rounds, with 16 teams eliminated at the end of the group stage: Czech Republic, Qatar, Haiti, Turkey, Curaçao, Tunisia, New Zealand, Uruguay, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Jordan, Panama, Uzbekistan, Scotland, Iran, and South Korea. South Africa has now also been knocked out.
Canada progressed to the last 16 thanks to a stoppage-time goal from Eustaquio, preventing extra time against the co-hosts. On Monday, two more Round of 32 matches were set for UK viewers. At 6pm, Bruno Guimarães-led Brazil faced Japan, a challenging fixture given Japan’s recent quality. The night concluded at 9:30pm with Germany taking on Paraguay, where Miguel Almirón returns from a one-game suspension for Newcastle United, and United players Nick Woltemade and Malick Thiaw were expected to be on the bench. Germany, though not entirely convincing, were favorites, while Paraguay could spring a surprise.
To date, the tournament has reached 216 goals across 73 matches, averaging just under three goals per game—near the high mark last seen in the 1958 World Cup, and the closest since then to that level. The 1970 Mexico World Cup holds the record at 2.97 goals per game; the 2026 edition sits at 2.96 after 73 matches. Here are the Round of 32 results and the upcoming fixtures, all times shown in UK time and aligned with their respective broadcasters:
