The Los Angeles Dodgers defeated the Oakland Athletics 9-3 in game 2 of a three-game set at Sutter Health Park in West Sacramento, maintaining their lead in the series. A’s starter Jeffrey Springs had a rough night, giving up two early Dodgers runs in the first inning before Oakland answered with a run of their own on Shea Langeliers’ infield single and Jonah Heim’s RBI single, tying the score at 2-1. In the second inning, Springs escaped a jam after two Dodgers reached on an error and a walk. The Dodgers extended their lead in the third when Tommy Edman hit a two-run homer to make it 5-1. The A’s squandered a scoring opportunity in the fifth, stranding Max Muncy at second after his double. Langeliers and Heim provided the A’s early offense, but Springs struggled, allowing six runs on eight hits in 5 1/3 innings with four walks and two strikeouts, and he was charged with the loss. Elvis Alvarado pitched the final outs of the sixth inning after Springs was removed for walking Shohei Ohtani. The Dodgers added three more runs in the seventh off Geoff Hartlieb, sealing the victory and securing the series with a game to spare, as Oakland dropped its fourth consecutive defeat.
