Barcelona have submitted a transfer bid for Atletico Madrid forward Julian Alvarez, according to Barca president Joan Laporta. The Catalan club, aiming to replace Robert Lewandowski who recently left for Chicago Fire, have been strongly linked with the Argentina international. Laporta confirmed that Deco, Barca’s sporting director, made a firm offer for a significant fee and said Alvarez has wanted to move to Barca for some time, dating back to his days at Manchester City. He noted that Atletico claimed they weren’t planning to sell, given they didn’t have a viable alternative, but added that the offer would remain on the table until they decide otherwise. Laporta also mentioned that Barca maintains good institutional relations with Atletico, countering claims the Spanish club might be reported to FIFA over their interest. Last week, Alvarez, while with Argentina at the World Cup, said it would be best for all parties if he could leave Atletico. Atletico reportedly rejected Real Madrid’s €150 million bid for Alvarez in June. Alvarez joined Atletico from Manchester City in 2024 for up to €85 million.
