WKRG News 5 is recognizing its Scholar Athlete of the Week, celebrating Foley High School’s William Quarles. Quarles was chosen as Foley High’s student with the best school spirit and served as homecoming king. Over four years on the varsity football team, he played defensive line and quarterback, captained the squad, and earned a spot on the All-County Team. In baseball, he played second base and catcher, posted the highest batting average in 7A, and was named to the All-County Team for two consecutive years, plus the second-team All-State honor in his senior year. Beyond athletics, Quarles dedicates time to tutoring others and participates in the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. He plans to attend Jacksonville State University this fall. The article also notes a separate update about a deadly fire in Conecuh County and coverage of a Mobile murder victim’s mother urging an end to gun violence. Copyright 2026 Nexstar Media, Inc.
