On Friday, July 3 at 7:15 p.m. ET, the Atlanta Braves host a division rival for the second time this season at Truist Park in Atlanta, Georgia. Grant Holmes (66) will take the mound for the Braves against the Toronto Blue Jays, with a must-see matchup expected to kick off the series on a strong note. Holmes is stepping in for Bryce Elder, whose velocity dipped in his most recent outing. In Holmes’ last appearance, he worked four innings, allowing only one hit and yielding no runs. Over his past seven appearances, his ERA has risen to 4.20, and his 2026 strikeout rate has dropped to a career-low 20.7% in his third MLB season, while his walk rate stands at a career-high 11.1%. He’ll be looking to turn those numbers around in this game.
For the Blue Jays, right-hander Christian Scott is returning from the injured list and has posted a 3.20 ERA with a 1.33 WHIP. In his most recent start against the Phillies on June 27, he threw four innings, giving up two runs on three hits and two walks while recording six strikeouts. Scott has emphasized establishing his offspeed pitches early and remains focused on consistency and locating pitches in the strike zone as he regains strength.
Holmes will need a similar game plan, plus a strong defensive performance from the Braves to support him. Offensively, Atlanta will also have to deliver the runs needed for a victory.
