Jules Kounde ‘not at all worried’ by criticism of his Barcelona form

France defender Jules Kounde, wearing number 05, held a press conference at Bentley University in Boston on July 2, 2026, ahead of France’s round of 16 World Cup clash with Paraguay. The Barcelona and France star addressed criticism of his form, insisting he isn’t bothered and is enjoying life at World Cup 2026 with the French team. Acknowledging he underperformed in the 2025-26 season for Barcelona, Kounde said he’s now focused on claiming glory with France as part of a strong squad.
Asked about the recent criticisms, he emphasized his indifference: “To be honest, I don’t read it. I hear it from time to time, but I’m pretty impervious to it. It’s not something that worries me. I have the confidence of the coach and my teammates, which for me is the most important thing.” He also voiced strong self-belief, noting that it’s up to him to prove himself for the national team and contribute to France’s goals, but he’s not worried about the chatter. He felt he performed well against Sweden, as did the team, though he stopped short of claiming it as his best game.
Kounde also spoke about thriving in the France camp, one of the tournament favorites, and adapting to the hot weather. He said: “I’m managing it quite well. I feel better physically, thanks to the work. The pace is intense, and the heat adds fatigue, but we’re adapting and prepared. We’re using every day to recover properly, and hydration is key. I feel great.”
Though rumors have linked him to a possible sale following his solid form, Kounde reiterated his happiness at Barcelona and his desire to see out his current contract.
