Morocco coach praises forward Díaz despite World Cup goal drought

By admin — In News — July 3, 2026

Morocco coach Mohamed Ouahbi has voiced strong support for star forward Brahim Díaz, who is still waiting for his first World Cup goal ahead of Saturday’s last-16 clash with co-host Canada. Ouahbi stressed that Díaz, who plays for Real Madrid, “doesn’t have to be the game-changer every single day” and praised his two assists and defensive contributions, saying he is “very happy” with his performance. He acknowledged the high expectations placed on elite players, noting that fans and pundits demand more from them. Describing Díaz as one of Morocco’s best players, Ouahbi highlighted his role as the Africa Cup of Nations top scorer this year. Morocco progressed from the group stage undefeated with seven points, and after beating the Netherlands on penalties in the last 32, they carry 2022’s semi-final experience into the Houston match, where they are favorites against Canada. However, Ouahbi cautioned that the level shown in earlier games won’t be enough to secure victory, urging his team to raise their performance for this knockout tie. For SEO, the emphasis remains on Ouahbi’s support for Díaz, Morocco’s World Cup prospects, and the upcoming Canada showdown.
