The 2026 PWHL Draft was hailed as the most talented ever in the league’s young history, introducing soon-to-be superstars such as Caroline Harvey, Abbey Murphy, Laila Edwards, and Tessa Janecke. Each year, the PWHL will continue to add talent through the draft, and in 2027 the pool could feature players like Joy Dunne. While 2027 remains ahead, here is a very early look at the 2028 and 2029 PWHL Drafts.
2028 PWHL Draft
Mira Jungaker, D, Ohio State
With KK Harvey now a member of the PWHL’s Vancouver Goldeneyes, Jungaker stands as the heir to the label of best defender outside the PWHL. She is mobile, physical, capable of defending and contributing offensively off the rush and from the blueline, and she brings international experience from Worlds and the Olympics with Sweden. Jungaker is poised to be a two-way force and could be the next defender to reshape how the game is played in the PWHL.
Chloe Primerano, D, Minnesota
Already a World Championship medalist with Canada, Primerano has earned a “phenom” label for good reason. This season, she endured a challenging second NCAA campaign and missed Canada’s Olympic roster. Primerano is set to become a full-time national team member soon. Her goal this year should be to reestablish dominance by leveraging her exceptional puck transport, evasive skating, and the edge that creates space for her play.
Caitlin Kraemer, F, Minnesota-Duluth
After representing Canada this year at the Rivalry Series, Kraemer remains a rising power forward. She hasn’t exploded offensively in the NCAA as hoped, so unlocking her shot off the rush and increasing production will be essential. Canada needs more dynamic offensive talent rather than more players relegated to checking-line roles, and Kraemer can provide that if used effectively.
Maggie Scannell, F, Wisconsin
She may be the American forward closest to clinching a national team spot outside the PWHL, given her size, puck protection, and finishing ability. Scannell will continue to develop at perennial NCAA powerhouse Wisconsin.
Mackenzie Alexander, F, Princeton
Alexander has proven productive wherever she has played, and in a league where offense is at a premium, a line will be ready to capitalize on her scoring. She enjoys possessing the puck, and her playmaking vision and execution have consistently set up top players in NCAA hockey for multiple seasons. In short, Alexander can produce in a variety of ways.
More To Watch For 2028: Claire Murdoch, Emma Venusio, Makayla Watson, Felicia Frank, Julia Schalin
2029 PWHL Draft
Hilda Svensson, F, Ohio State
Svensson is the WCHA Rookie of the Year and co-national NCAA Rookie of the Year, a veteran of multiple World Championships, and a member of Sweden’s 2026 Olympic team. Having progressed from the SDHL, she’s already proven herself capable of competing at the highest levels of women’s hockey.
