England’s Luke Humphries and Luke Littler beat the Spanish duo of Cristo Reyes and Jose Justicia 27-24, booking a quarter-final clash against Wales at the World Cup of Darts. The top seeds, who joined the competition in the second round, established a 28-22 advantage in their opening match in Frankfurt, only for their unseeded rivals to fight back in the fifth leg. The two teams traded legs until Littler hit double six to move 33-23 ahead, allowing the world’s top two players to finish the contest. “That was probably about six out of 214.” Humphries told Sky Sports that they had anticipated a different performance level compared to their Premier League average. He expressed pride in how the team mounted a comeback. It wasn’t the absolute worst show ever. It wasn’t our finest performance, but now that we’ve got our opening match out of the way, we can settle down and play the way we know we’re capable of tomorrow. “It was a useful test for us, so hopefully that will pay off tomorrow.”
