NEW YORK (AP) — Jessica Shepard posted 22 points, 12 rebounds and 11 assists, notching her third triple-double of the season as the Dallas Wings defeated the New York Liberty 88-77 on Tuesday night. Dallas improved to 14-8, securing its eighth road win of the season after collecting just six road victories over the previous two campaigns.
Paige Bueckers delivered the decisive moment when she drilled her lone 3-pointer of the night with 3:12 remaining in the fourth quarter, extending Dallas’ lead to 82-70. Shepard earned an assist on the play, marking her as the second player in WNBA history to record three triple-doubles in a season, a feat that places her alongside Alyssa Thomas. Shepard’s fourth career triple-double ties her with Sabrina Ionescu for the second-most in league history, behind Thomas.
Bueckers finished with 15 points, seven rebounds and six assists, contributing to a Dallas squad that has won five of its last seven games. Azzi Fudd added 12 points, and Awak Kuier posted a near triple-double with 10 points, 12 rebounds and seven assists. On the New York side, Breanna Stewart poured in 29 points and grabbed nine rebounds, as the Liberty slipped to 13-9 and dropped a pair of home games to Dallas this season. Jonquel Jones had 17 points, and Ionescu scored 14.
Stewart accounted for four of New York’s 10 first-half field goals, while her teammates struggled, going 6 of 27 from the floor as Dallas led 47-31 at halftime. Dallas heads to Toronto on Friday, while New York travels to Minnesota on Saturday.
