BERLIN, GERMANY – MAY 23: Vincent Kompany, the coach of Bayern Munich, celebrates with the fans after his side’s victory in the DFB Cup Final 2026, played between FC Bayern München and VfB Stuttgart at the Olympiastadion on May 23, 2026, in Berlin, Germany. The World Cup is giving Bayern Munich a tough time for several reasons, but that’s the price of maintaining a star-studded roster. Fans who already bought tickets for Bayern Munich’s preseason games in Asia may end up disappointed: Vincent Kompany faces an issue in the attacking department. For the season opener on July 20, none of the forwards will be fully fit, and the same goes for the Tegernsee training camp from July 27–30: Kane, Olise, Díaz, Saibari (all still tied up with the World Cup), Karl, Gnabry, and Musiala (rehab). Whether Kane, Olise, and Díaz will join the Asia tour (August 1–8) depends largely on their post-World Cup rest, with the possibility that they might only arrive in Munich after the tour. Kompany wants to ensure they have ample recovery time before the new campaign begins. It would be surprising if Kane, Olise, and Díaz joined the Asia tour. In 2018, none of the World Cup participants traveled to North America for the International Champions Cup, which underscored the club’s value on giving players rest. Having attended the Bayern Munich vs. Juventus match on that rainy Philadelphia night in 2018, purchasing tickets for preseason tours during World Cup years always carries risk. The author recalls Arjen Robben, David Alaba, Javi Martínez, Sven Ulreich, Franck Ribéry, and a very young Josip Stanišić on that trip, along with Meritan Shabani, Ryan Johansson, Renato Sanches, and Paul Will in attendance. Nevertheless, with Bayern’s star trio already showing strong chemistry, a bit more rest could benefit them when the real competition heats up. For the other attackers, the priority remains getting fully healthy. So, what does all this mean? Expect to see a lot of Arijon Ibrahimović.
ICYMI: Bayern open the season against Stuttgart (FC Bayern official site). Amid the World Cup frenzy, the details for Bayern Munich’s season opener might have slipped through the cracks: the Bundesliga’s 64th season schedule has been published by the Bundesliga eV. The reigning champions will host VfB Stuttgart at the Allianz Arena on Friday, August 28 (8:30 p.m.). The match will be shown on pay-TV Sky and free-to-air SAT.1.
