With Jürgen Klopp expected to assume Germany’s top coaching post, Red Bull is searching for a successor to fill the role of Head of Global Soccer. Sport Bild reports that the leading candidate to step into the position is Markus Krösche, a member of the Eintracht Frankfurt board responsible for sport. Krösche’s standout network, keen eye for talent, and transfer know-how align with the profile Red Bull seeks in a global soccer executive.
At present, there have been no formal discussions between Red Bull and Krösche. However, the 45-year-old is not new to the Red Bull organization, having previously served as RB Leipzig’s sporting director from 2019 to 2021. The split with RB Leipzig stemmed from internal disagreements, yet his relationship with Red Bull chief Oliver Mintzlaff has since been repaired and remains cordial.
Beyond Krösche, Thierry Henry, the former Arsenal and French national team forward, is also mentioned as a potential successor. Henry has coaching experience with Monaco and French youth squads, and he is currently an investor in Italian club Como while also contributing as a pundit. This combination of leadership, strategic insight, and multimedia engagement makes him a credible option for Red Bull’s global soccer leadership track.
Roger Schmidt, the former Red Bull Salzburg head coach, is another name in the mix. The 59-year-old has a rich coaching résumé that includes stints with Bayer Leverkusen, PSV Eindhoven, and Benfica. Currently, Schmidt serves as Global Football Advisor for Japan’s J.League, a role that complements Red Bull’s expansive international portfolio and could align with the group’s long-term soccer strategy.
Red Bull’s search for a new head of global soccer underscores the company’s ongoing commitment to strengthening its worldwide football network. The choice will be pivotal in shaping Red Bull’s talent development, transfer strategies, and cross-club collaboration across its global football ecosystem. As Klopp’s future plans unfold in Germany, Red Bull remains focused on identifying a candidate who can drive strategic growth, nurture emerging talent, and maintain the high-performance standard that has characterized the organization’s football ventures for years.
