Sunderland in the picture for Tarik Muharemovic, Juventus moving away from move

According to Alfredo Pedullà, Juventus are not altering their stance on Tarik Muharemović, the young Bosnian centre-back who appears increasingly destined to leave for England, with Sunderland among the clubs showing concrete interest in signing him. Muharemović has just enjoyed a historic World Cup campaign for Bosnia and Herzegovina, whose national team reached the round of 32—their best finish at a World Cup finals to date—before falling to co-hosts the United States. This recent breakthrough comes on the back of another strong season with Sassuolo, who secured a solid mid-table position in Serie A in their first campaign back in the top flight.
Giovanni Carnevali, Sassuolo’s former chief executive who resigned last month, traveled to London toward the end of the previous season to advocate for a Premier League move for the 23-year-old. Although Carnevali has since moved on to Juventus, who have shown interest in reuniting with their former Next Gen player, it seems unlikely that they will bid more than about €15 million for Muharemović. Sassuolo, however, have raised their valuation to €40 million, up from €30 million before the World Cup began.
A move to England’s top division appears increasingly likely for Muharemović, whose contract with Sassuolo runs for another several years, until June 2031, and is currently worth around €740,000. Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with him, but they have recently pursued a series of high-profile signings, including a £52 million deal for defender Jan Paul van Hecke. Sunderland and Bournemouth have also shown interest, as noted by Luca Cilli. Both Premier League clubs are set to participate in European competition next season and could soon formalize offers. A €40 million price tag might be steep for Juventus, but it is within reach for a Premier League outfit keen to make a bold statement in the market, especially one looking to shake up expectations after their recent upheavals.
When Sunderland returned to the Premier League after an eight-year absence—a period that even saw them languishing in the third tier for a time—few anticipated they would at once compete fiercely and defy the odds, causing disruptions among established top-flight teams and even earning a place in European competition. Régis Le Bris and his staff will be eager to prove last season’s achievements were not a fluke as they brace for another ambitious campaign with Europe beckoning. In that context, Sunderland could emerge as a destination for Muharemović, offering exposure to perhaps the world’s most competitive league while also providing a platform to showcase his talents on the European stage—an environment that has recently seen players thrive.
Bournemouth, meanwhile, have also been performing notably well and will likely seek to extend their reach into European competition, which could further shape their interest in Muharemović. The overall market dynamics suggest that a move to the Premier League this summer remains plausible for the 23-year-old, with a handful of clubs prepared to make decisive moves depending on how negotiations unfold and how Juventus and Sassuolo calibrate their respective valuations.
