Aaron Plessinger questionable for Southwick

Following a crash in the first moto at RedBud, Aaron Plessinger posted an update on his condition via social media Tuesday. While he did not explicitly say he would miss the upcoming round, his wording leaves some doubt about whether he will be part of the lineup at The Wick 338 in Southwick, Massachusetts this weekend.
“First off, thank you to everyone that has checked in on me, and RedBud did not go as I expected,” Plessinger wrote. “It’s such a bummer to go down like that without even a lap in. I ended up getting a decent jump out of the gate and going down in the first corner, and as soon as I hit the ground I got hit from behind. It tore my pants and gave me a nice cut right on my tailbone. The guys over at Alpinestars Medic unit got me cleaned up, stitched up, and on my way. I want to thank them for that. As much as it sucks, I’m glad it’s not worse, and I’m glad nothing is broken. I’m going to get this wound healed up and be back as soon as I can. Thank you everyone for your support! Hoping this black cloud I’m under passes by soon.”
Plessinger’s hint that he hopes to be back “as soon as I can” is sufficiently ambiguous to imply that he is weighing Southwick as a potential race-day decision. However, with the SuperMotocross World Championship Playoffs looming on September 12 at Historic Crew Stadium in Columbus, Ohio, he cannot afford to miss too many more motos if he wants a guaranteed Playoffs berth. He sits 13th in the combined SuperMotocross standings, a margin of 77 points above the cutline, but time is running out. Six rounds of Pro Motocross remain, which translates to a cushion of roughly 13 points per moto if he can maximize his results.
The injury adds to Plessinger’s recent misfortune, following a late-season setback in Monster Energy Supercross. He missed the final rounds in Birmingham after sustaining an injury, and his recent performance has included a drought of points, particularly in the second moto at Round 2 of Pro Motocross and both motos at RedBud. His current situation underscores the challenge of balancing recovery with the pressure to qualify for the postseason.
As Southwick approaches, riders and fans will be watching closely to see if Plessinger can line up and compete. The decision will hinge on his ability to manage pain, protect the tailbone injury, and preserve his overall health for the remainder of the motocross season. If he chooses to race, it will mark another gritty effort from a rider known for tenacity in the face of adversity. If he sits out, the team will likely pursue a calculated plan to ensure he remains healthy for the long road to Columbus and the SuperMotocross Playoffs. In any case, Plessinger’s update signals caution, resilience, and a determination to return to the track as soon as possible.
