This offseason has Colts fans waiting with bated breath

Think back to last offseason. What were your expectations for the Indianapolis Colts? Remember that last year saw Daniel Jones and Anthony Richardson jockeying for the starting quarterback job, with neither coming into the campaign having a training camp to write home about. I’m not saying all fans felt doom and gloom, but honesty says you’ve probably felt a bit uneasy. The bar was set low, and that was enough for some optimism to feel thin. This offseason, however, feels unsettled and unpredictable. It could swing in either direction, and that ambiguity leaves Colts fans far from comfortable.
That once-low bar was cleared swiftly in 2025, only to be knocked down again by season’s end. It’s precisely this rollercoaster nature of the last year that makes the current offseason so tough to read. Which version of the 2025 Colts will show up in the fall? There were two historic halves—each remarkable in its own way—and fans understandably hope for the first half to reemerge. But there are notable caveats that complicate that wish.
The quarterback is still working his way back from an Achilles injury, and the top wide receiver is rehabbing from ankle surgery. There are myriad other pieces that form an offense, but losing talent at those two positions is bound to sting. Compounding the concern are persistent rumors about a potential Jonathan Taylor trade, a development that would only add another layer of uncertainty. Wanting another explosive start and a strong finish becomes far more precarious when you’re staring down that kind of potential reality. If Taylor is dealt, or if Jones, Pierce, or both begin the season sidelined, nerves will spike to a fever pitch.
Even with time still on the calendar before the regular season, the clock is ticking as preseason activities begin to wind down. Missing too much time can blunt a player’s ability to ramp up correctly. The latest updates are encouraging, but how many times have we seen promising news precede disappointing setbacks? The future remains unclear, and the Colts appear to be inching toward a rocky start. You might just have to hold your breath a little longer.
