Three Michigan men’s basketball players were selected in the 2026 NBA Draft last month. But who will deliver the strongest rookie season? Cast your vote in this edition of SB Nation Reacts and have your say.
To recap the draft results: Forward Morez Johnson Jr. went No. 9 overall to the Dallas Mavericks. Johnson will reunite with Michigan head coach Dusty May, who had the Mavericks briefly on his roster just before the draft, setting up a familiar system for Johnson as he transitions to the NBA.
All three players find themselves in solid positions to begin their professional careers. Johnson enters an offense with a recognizable coaching philosophy from May, which could help him earn early minutes. Patrick Lendeborg, another Wolverine prospect, joins a roster that features future Hall of Famers Steph Curry and Jimmy Butler somewhere down the line, creating an environment rich in experience and championship pedigree. Aday Mara lands with the Oklahoma City Thunder, a team that is just a season removed from capturing an NBA championship, offering a competitive environment and immediate opportunities in a club focused on development and growth.
When projecting rookie impact, Johnson might have the clearest path to meaningful minutes right away, thanks to his prior familiarity with May’s system and his readiness to contribute on both ends of the floor. Lendeborg could find himself in a role as a versatile piece who contributes sparingly in his first year, potentially thriving in a rotational setup that values defense, floor spacing, and timely scoring. Mara is likely to be a developmental project in his inaugural season, earning minutes in a reserve role where he can adapt to the speed and physicality of the NBA while the Thunder refine their rotations around him.
