Four individuals and a state championship team are part of the newest class set to be inducted into the Portland High School Athletic Hall of Fame this fall. The honorees, consisting of Ryan Snellenberger, Andy Pohl, Andy Pulling, Jon Snellenberger, and the 2012 Portland football squad that captured a state title, will be unveiled during a ceremony on Saturday, October 17, at the Portland Knights of Columbus Hall.
Ryan Snellenberger, a 2004 graduate, shined on both the football and basketball courts during his high school career. Andy Pohl, who graduated in 2001, is being celebrated for his achievements in wrestling and football, marking him as a standout multi-sport athlete in Portland’s history. Andy Pulling, a 2003 graduate, distinguished himself on the wrestling mat, leaving a lasting impression with his competitive drive and success. Jon Snellenberger is being honored for five decades of coaching, a testament to his enduring commitment to developing student-athletes and fostering athletic excellence within the Portland program.
The 2012 Portland football team earned its claim to fame by clinching the Division 5 state championship, defeating Grand Rapids West Catholic with a narrow, hard-fought 12-9 victory that remains a landmark moment in the school’s athletic lore. This class addition reflects the district’s ongoing recognition of athletes and coaches who have contributed significantly to Portland High School’s athletic tradition.
