‘Not So Good for Everyone Else’ – Alexander Zverev Makes Position Clear on Arthur Fery Wimbledon Semifinal

By admin — In News — July 8, 2026

Alexander Zverev finally halted his winless run against Taylor Fritz by claiming a straight-sets victory to book his first Wimbledon semifinal appearance. After the match, the German star looked ahead to his upcoming clash with Arthur Fery in the last four and considered how much backing he might receive—or not receive—from the Wimbledon crowd.
Until this season, Zverev had never progressed beyond the fourth round at the Championships. Yet coming off a breakthrough moment months earlier when he finally ended his long Major drought by winning the French Open, the 29-year-old has found his groove at the All England Club. He also snapped a seven-match losing streak to Fritz, seizing control as the American battled a knee issue and winning convincingly 6-4, 6-4, 6-2. Zverev fired 14 aces, converted four break-point chances, and never allowed Fritz to break his serve.
In the on-court interview after the match, Zverev addressed the upcoming semifinal against Fery and the potential support from the crowd. “It’s okay. You guys can all be for Fery; I understand it. I don’t have a problem with it. I hope (the result is) good for me and not so good for everyone else,” Zverev said. “I think I have to trust myself. I have to trust my tennis. Hopefully, I can just show a good performance and then we’ll see what happens.”
Zverev may not be fretting about crowd support in the semifinal, but he does face a stern test against Fery. The 23-year-old, who grew up near Wimbledon, has exceeded all expectations at SW19 this year. By defeating Zverev’s close friend Flavio Cobolli in the quarterfinals, Fery became only the second wildcard to reach Wimbledon’s semifinals, following Goran Ivanišević, and he did so in straight sets, much to the delight of the home fans.
The stage is set for a thrilling showdown. Stopping the in-form Zverev will be no easy feat for Fery, yet if he continues to play as he has throughout Wimbledon, he will have every chance to pull off a landmark upset against the second seed. The match promises high drama: Zverev arrives with momentum, while Fery hopes to ride crowd energy to tilt the balance in his favor and etch his name in Wimbledon history with one of the tournament’s biggest upsets.
