Drover Hills Golf Course hosts 98th Annual Washita Valley Golf Tournament

Nearly a century of golfing legacy runs deep in Chickasha, anchored by the town’s sole championship course. Over the weekend, the 98th Annual Washita Valley Golf Tournament returned to Drover Hills Golf Course, drawing more than 90 competitive golfers to one of Oklahoma’s most historic invitational events.
The Washita Valley Golf Tournament first took place in 1928 at the Chickasha Golf and Country Club—today known as Drover Hills Golf Course—and has been staged in Chickasha every year since, making it the oldest continuous invitational in the state. “This is the first tournament [Drover Hills] has hosted, but it’s the 98th annual,” remarked Chickasha City Councilmember Erica Alexander. “It’s the oldest invitational golf tournament in the state. Watching the tradition and legacy endure is incredibly exciting.” She added, “What they’ve built there with the foundation, the volunteers, and now the staff is exceptional. The golf course has never looked better. It’s absolutely gorgeous, and the number of spectators throughout the week was thrilling. The event feels alive and vibrant once again.”
This year’s 98th edition marked Drover Hills’ inaugural hosting since Chickasha purchased the nearly 70-acre property last year. The acquisition led to the creation of the Chickasha Golf Foundation and a three-year lease proposal to operate the site as a public golf course. The City of Chickasha approved the plan, and Drover Hills officially reopened in October 2025. The three-day tournament was perfectly suited to the course, featuring seven skill-based flights where golfers competed across three rounds in stroke play. Prizes awarded included $1,500 for first place, $750 for second, and $500 for third in each flight.
Among the standout performers, Chickasha native and former PGA Tour player Cody Burrows claimed the 98th Washita Valley Championship with rounds of 66-71-63 for a total of 200, earning his eighth Washita Valley title. Burrows also carded a remarkable 63 on Sunday to capture back-to-back titles in the Championship Flight. Runners-up included Brock Jerman (69-67-70, 206) in second place and Tyler Yarborough (72-68-72, 212) in third.
Chickasha leaders and longtime supporters alike praised the enduring cultural significance of the event. “If you have the chance next year, on the 4th of July weekend, come out and enjoy the tournament,” Alexander said. “Even if you’re not into golf, the experience is worth it. There’s so much golf history here, and I’m thrilled that it’s continuing to thrive and that this year’s tournament was a tremendous success.”
