Rams’ offense led the NFL in drives resulting in TDs this past season

No team finished more of its offensive possessions with a touchdown in 2025 than the Los Angeles Rams. A drive-outcome breakdown from Nutshell Sportz, based on nflfastR data, shows the Rams led the entire NFL in touchdown rate per drive, meaning a larger share of their possessions ended in the end zone—not just in points, but in actual scoring drives.
The numbers align with the eye test. Los Angeles totaled 65 touchdowns, tying for the league lead, and averaged an NFL-best 2.80 points per drive. The Rams didn’t merely score rapidly; they also stayed aggressive when a drive stalled, converting 66.7% of fourth-down attempts to keep drives alive rather than settling for shorter, less productive sequences. This willingness to push for more opportunities helped sustain their scoring tempo.
Volume reinforced efficiency. The Rams ran 1,113 offensive plays and averaged 6.1 plays per drive, both among the top-10 marks in the league, and they led the NFL with 76 trips into the red zone. Within those red-zone chances, Los Angeles converted 63.2% into touchdowns—a figure that is strong and near the top of the league, though not necessarily the single best rate. The takeaway is that their offensive dominance came as much from consistently reaching scoring territory as from converting every red-zone possession with perfect precision once there.
One notable caveat: third-down conversions were not elite. Los Angeles converted only 39.6% of third downs, placing them 25th in the league. Yet they also tied for the second-fewest third-down attempts, with 192, a reflection of a team that moved the chains efficiently enough that many drives did not require a sizable number of third-down plays. The kicking game was middling as well, with only 78.6% of field goals made. Still, field-goal attempts were relatively scarce (the 27th-most in the league), and the scoring profile shows that most drives culminated in touchdowns rather than field goals, underscoring the Rams’ preference for, and success with, aiming for the end zone.
This is perhaps the most lucid illustration of Sean McVay’s command of the NFL game plan. In football, touchdowns generally win games, and the 2025 Rams demonstrated one of the league’s highest touchdown rates on a per-drive basis. While that success didn’t translate into a Super Bowl victory that season, the Rams entered 2026 with a confidence-building trend, hoping to extend their offensive momentum further into the NFL calendar.
