Football: True Freshmen Contributors – Defense

By admin — In News — July 8, 2026

We’re in July, which means fall camp is just around the corner. The perennial mystery for any team this time of year is what the true freshmen will deliver. A year ago, many people probably expected Dakorien Moore to make an impact, but few anticipated contributions from Jordon Davison, Dierre Hill Jr., and Brandon Finney at the level they ended up delivering. With that in mind, I’d like to hear from the fan base about who they think will contribute this season. Rather than focusing on individual players, let’s gather thoughts from a position-group perspective.
First, on the defense: which defensive position group do you believe is most likely to have a true freshman contribute in 2026? Whether you’re relying on a gut feeling about a particular athlete or you’ve identified a specific need you expect to be filled, tell us which unit you expect to see a true freshman impact the most this coming season.
On the flip side, which position group would surprise you the most if a true freshman made a meaningful contribution in 2026? This could be due to an abundance of proven options already in the room, or because there simply isn’t a ready-to-play true freshman available in 2026. We’re looking for the group you’d least expect to see a freshman step in and make a difference.
Please share your reasoning and predictions from a position-group standpoint. Your insights will help shape a broader conversation about how the roster could unfold come fall 2026, and they’ll be useful for fans seeking a bigger-picture view of the defense.
