Who Won Last Year’s Summer NASCAR Cup Race at EchoPark Speedway?

The NASCAR Cup Series is headed back to EchoPark Speedway this weekend, and if recent memory serves, fans should brace for another photo-finish moment. Last summer delivered exactly that kind of drama, with Chase Elliott thrilling the hometown crowd by pulling off a last-lap pass to notch his first win of the 2025 season. Here’s a look back at how the race unfolded as the Cup Series prepares to roll into Hampton, Georgia again.
Heading into the 2025 Quaker State 400, it looked as though Brad Keselowski might ride to victory. The RFK Racing pilot led a race-high 46 laps and seemed to have the win locked up with just one circuit remaining. Then Elliott got a late assist from Hendrick Motorsports teammate Alex Bowman on the final lap, giving him the momentum needed to make a bold move. Elliott swooped up on Keselowski’s outside with uncanny timing, completed the pass, and pulled away to secure the victory. The Dawsonville, Georgia native crossed the finish line a mere 0.168 seconds ahead of Keselowski, while Bowman capped a Hendrick Motorsports one-two-three by taking third.
That win marked Elliott’s first of the 2025 season, his 20th career Cup Series victory, and his second career triumph at EchoPark Speedway. After climbing out of his No. 9 Chevrolet, Elliott voiced a mix of disbelief and gratitude: “Unbelievable … unbelievable. How about that? Are you kidding me? I’ve never in my life. … This is unbelievable. Thank you guys so much.” He later reflected on the chaotic finish, saying, “Well, I just think that, honestly, all the cards fell in the right places there those last couple laps. What a crazy race, man. I don’t know if y’all had fun, but it was wild from my seat. I’m so glad we got to run that thing out there to the end.”
The 2025 edition at EchoPark Speedway was emblematic of the track’s reputation for high-stakes, edge-of-your-seat racing. The race featured a large number of lead changes—46 in total among 13 different drivers—indicating how fluid the contest was from green to checkered. Keselowski, Elliott, and Bowman combined to lead 119 of the 260 laps, underscoring the intense competition at the front of the field. The afternoon also included multiple multi-car crashes that kept safety crews busy and kept strategies in a constant state of adjustment.
One of the event’s most memorable sequences occurred on Lap 57 when a seven-car accident took Christopher Bell and Ryan Blaney out of contention. The more consequential incident happened on Lap 69, when a larger wreck eliminated several contenders, including Ross Chastain, William Byron, Daniel Suárez, Denny Hamlin, Chase Briscoe, and Austin Cindric. Even amid the carnage, Elliott navigated the chaos with composure and timed his decisive move to perfection in the closing miles, sealing a signature victory for both himself and his team.
The top-10 finishers from the race reflected the drama and talent on display that afternoon at EchoPark Speedway. Elliott led the way to the winner’s circle, followed by Keselowski in second and Bowman in third. Tyler Reddick, Erik Jones, Ricky Stenhouse Jr., Zane Smith, Ty Dillon, Chris Buescher, and Carson Hocevar rounded out the rest of the top 10, highlighting a mix of veterans and rising stars who kept fans engaged from start to finish.
EchoPark Speedway’s reputation for unpredictable, late-race finishes has only grown since its 2022 reconfiguration. The venue has become one of the most entertaining stops on the NASCAR schedule, with near-constant late lead changes and last-lap battles that deliver unforgettable moments. Elliott’s dramatic hometown victory added another indelible page to the track’s growing legacy, reinforcing why fans circle this race on the calendar year after year. As the Cup Series returns to Hampton, Georgia, expectations are high for another weekend filled with intensity, strategy, and a finish that could be decided in the waning moments of the race.
