A former Mansfield High standout in football is taking his talents up north to La Belle Province, joining the Montreal Alouettes of the Canadian Football League. On Monday, July 6, the Alouettes announced the signing of defensive lineman TJ Guy via a press release, though no further contract details were disclosed.
The 2021 Mansfield High School graduate recently completed a five-year college career at the University of Michigan, where he registered 66 tackles (36 of them solo), 12.5 tackles for a loss, 10 sacks, an interception, and a pass defended over 48 games for the Wolverines. Notably, those latter two statistics came during his graduate season, when he also served as an alternate captain.
Hailing from Brockton, Guy starred for the Hornets under the guidance of legendary longtime coach Mike Redding. He played a pivotal role in Mansfield’s 42-0 victory over Lincoln-Sudbury in the 2019 MIAA Division 2 Super Bowl, a game that remains a highlight of his high school career. In addition to football, Guy contributed on the basketball floor, averaging 13.4 points per game as a junior and helping Mansfield win a third straight Hockomock Kelley-Rex title.
At 6-foot-4 and 250 pounds, Guy committed to Michigan as a three-star recruit and quickly established himself as a fixture on the Wolverines’ defensive line, primarily operating as an edge rusher. He was a member of Michigan’s 2023 CFP National Championship-winning squad, contributing on special teams as the Wolverines defeated Washington 34-13 in the title game—the program’s 10th national championship, and a title claimed by the program as its 12th. In 2024, Guy was recognized as Michigan’s Most Improved Player on Defense.
Guy initially signed with the Baltimore Ravens as an undrafted free agent on April 25, though he did not secure a roster spot with the team. His move to Montreal now adds another chapter to his professional journey, as he joins a Alouettes squad that has gotten off to a strong start this season, posting a 3-1 record and holding the East Division lead with a game edge over their long-standing rivals, the Toronto Argonauts. The Alouettes are aiming to return to the Grey Cup, seeking a championship after falling 25-17 to the Saskatchewan Roughriders in the 112th Grey Cup last November. Montreal’s last league title came in 2023, when the Alouettes rallied for a dramatic 28-24 comeback win over the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.
Montreal’s next action is set for Saturday, July 11, when the Alouettes host the Calgary Stampeders at 7 p.m. at Molson Stadium, the venue on the McGill University campus. The game will be broadcast on CBS Sports Network and streamed through the CBS Sports app. This move marks another high-profile transition in Guy’s career as he shifts from college football’s high level to the professional stage in Canada, embracing a new environment and the opportunity to contribute to a resurgent Montreal squad.
This report originated with coverage from The Enterprise and is being shared here to reflect TJ Guy’s trajectory from Mansfield High through his college career at Michigan to his current professional chapter with the Montreal Alouettes.
