​Michael Pyne, a rising junior quarterback listed as a three-star recruit in the Class of 2028, announced his college destination on Wednesday morning. The 6-foot-2, 205-pound signal-caller chose the University of Pennsylvania over a crowded slate of contenders that included Oklahoma State, Virginia Tech, Maryland, Wisconsin, Ole Miss, and Kentucky. Pyne spoke with Rivals on Wednesday afternoon at Wesley Chapel’s Cypress Creek High School in Florida, where he was competing in a 7-on-7 tournament, about his decision to join the Quakers.
“Ricky Santos is building something great. He’s a legendary player,” Pyne told Rivals. “His staff is filled with former players that Ricky Santos coached at UNH. It’s a good staff, and I’m looking forward to doing big things in the Ivy League.” Pyne later expressed his enthusiasm publicly, writing on social media that he is excited and blessed to commit to the University of Pennsylvania and grateful to be part of what Santos is building.
Last season, Pyne appeared in 10 games, completing 121 of 197 pass attempts for 1,714 yards and 11 touchdowns. He also contributed 292 rushing yards on 37 carries, scoring eight times on the ground. As he transitions to the next level, Pyne remains committed to his development and to helping his high school team, the Alonso Ravens, reach new heights in the 2026 season.
Looking ahead, Pyne acknowledged that the commitment allows him to shift his focus from recruiting chatter to the practical task of leading his team. He noted that his priority will be improving both his own game and the Ravens’ overall performance. “Now that I’m committed, I can focus on my team and getting us better,” he said. “Instead of worrying about offers, I can concentrate on having the best season possible this fall. We’ve got a lot of new weapons, a solid culture, and a strong work ethic. We’re pushing hard and ready to accomplish big things this season.”
