Terre Haute Rex All-Stars participated in the Prospect League All-Star baseball game held Tuesday night at Loeb Stadium, where the Eastern Conference staged a comeback to defeat the Western Conference 4-3. The West grabbed an early 2-1 lead after the first inning, and the next five innings remained scoreless as both teams locked in defensively. The East briefly trailed again in the top of the seventh when the West pushed across one run, but the Eastern offense erupted in the bottom half of the frame, tallying three runs to seize and hold the lead for good.
For the East, Terre Haute’s own Joseph Gutierrez got on base to start the scoring sequence by drawing a walk, then swiped second and moved to third on a single by Danville’s Will Burke, bringing home Lawson Alway from the Springfield Lucky Horseshoes. Alway, who finished with two hits and a run scored, set the tone for the Rex’s rally. Following this, Dubois County’s Hudson Allen lined a double to center field, driving in Burke and Gutierrez to extend the East’s advantage and add to the Firman touch of offense in a key moment of the game. Burke continued his productive night with another hit, driving in a run and contributing a run of his own as part of the East’s decisive seventh-inning surge.
The Rex added to their afternoon’s offense as Gio Mendoza scored a run, while Wally Diaz went 0-for-2 in the game. Mendoza was inserted in place of Carter Murphy, who was unable to participate. Terre Haute’s Breyllin Suriel, representing both Terre Haute and Indiana State, pitched one inning in relief to close out the game, allowing a hit while recording two strikeouts to secure the victory for the East.
On the mound for the East, Drake Hoffa of the Lucky Horseshoes earned the win, keeping the West at bay during the pivotal late innings and contributing to the East’s overall comeback success. The Rex, now 7-0 in the lineups and 17-15 overall, have won seven straight games and sit 9-1 in their last ten. Their next game is scheduled for Thursday at 7:30 p.m., traveling to Decatur as they continue a stretch of competitive play within the Prospect League. The team’s strong performance in the All-Star game highlighted the depth and talent across the Rex roster, showcasing the impact of players from Terre Haute, along with teammates from across the league, on a night that shifted momentum and ultimately delivered a memorable victory for the Eastern Conference.
