Reds become first team to homer 4 times in an inning this season

Cincinnati and Philadelphia provided a striking offensive showcase Wednesday night as the Reds became the first team this season to launch four homers in a single inning. The feat came during the fourth inning against the Phillies, turning a 2-2 contest into a 7-2 lead for Cincinnati by the time the frame ended. Noelvi Marte started the burst with a solo homer off Phillies starter Alan Rangel to push the Reds ahead 3-2. After two outs, Elly De La Cruz followed with a two-run blast to right-center off Tanner Banks, and rookie Sal Stewart, along with JJ Bleday, added solo shots to complete the four-homer inning.
Historically, the last team to register four homers in a single inning was Philadelphia themselves, accomplishing the feat in the bottom of the seventh on Sept. 24, 2025, against the Miami Marlins. Since 1974, this event has occurred five times, and Cincinnati hasn’t done it since the seventh inning of a July 4, 2010, game against the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field. The Reds last accomplished four homers in an inning at home on May 7, 2008, also versus the Cubs. Additionally, this marked the 15th time since 1961 that Cincinnati has hit back-to-back-to-back homers in a single inning; the most recent occurrence before this season happened in the sixth inning against Arizona on July 22, 2023, when TJ Friedl, Matt McLain, and Jake Fraley went deep off Brandon Pfaadt.
Stewart, who had just been named to the All-Star Game last week, added a two-run homer in the third as part of his second two-homer game of the season. The performance was part of a broader power display for Cincinnati, which entered the game ranked 13th in the majors with 108 homers on the season. The Reds’ power surge came against a Phillies club that has historically shown a penchant for big innings, though on this night Cincinnati took the initiative and turned a tied game into a one-sided lead with a flurry of long balls.
This sequence of homers helped shape what was otherwise a high-profile matchup with implications for both teams’ offensive identities. Cincinnati’s four-homer inning stood out as a rare and notable accomplishment in the modern era, underscoring the Reds’ capacity to manufacture and capitalize on a rally through multiple rounds of a single frame. The night also underscored Stewart’s growing role as a centerpiece for Cincinnati’s lineup, given his multi-homer performance, including the early third-inning shot that helped set the tone.
In sum, the Reds’ fourth-inning barrage defined the game, marking a historic four-homer inning this season and highlighting Cincinnati’s continued emphasis on power and depth in their lineup.
