LeBron James’ Wife Savannah Calls Out Critics, Saying ‘People Have Definitely Made Careers’ of Talking About the Former Lakers Star

Savannah James has pushed back on the backlash surrounding her husband LeBron James’s decision to part ways with the Los Angeles Lakers after eight seasons. In the Tuesday, July 7 episode of her podcast, Everybody’s Crazy, she spoke with co-host April McDaniel about LeBron’s surprising free-agent move and the way the public has responded. Savannah acknowledged that people will always have opinions, but she suggested there isn’t much you can do to change that. McDaniel added that the community built around Savannah and her podcast feels notably positive, something she hopes to protect and grow, especially in an era when social media often amplifies negativity rather than support. “That’s the piece I want to safeguard—the essence of that community and how we continue to nurture it,” McDaniel said. Savannah agreed, noting that maintaining a constructive environment is challenging when LeBron is such a global icon and critics frequently level harsh, negative takes. “You think that? That is a fact,” McDaniel said, echoing the sentiment. The conversation then turned to how some critics have built entire careers out of discussing LeBron’s decisions and opinions, sometimes presenting their viewpoints as universal truths. “It’s crazy,” Savannah remarked. “People have definitely made careers out of talking about [LeBron].” She elaborated that critics often frame their opinions as definitive truths about what is best for LeBron or for the sport, but those on the receiving end know it isn’t that simple. “They make careers out of that,” she added, underscoring the disproportionate attention some negative takes receive.
The news surrounding LeBron’s departure became public on June 30, when he confirmed his intention to leave the Lakers. His agent, Rich Paul, backed the disclosure in a statement to ESPN. Later that day, Lakers owner Jeanie Buss issued a message on X praising LeBron’s impact and expressing gratitude for his eight years with the franchise, including the 2020 championship he helped secure under extremely challenging circumstances. Buss’s statement highlighted LeBron’s records and contributions to the Lakers’ legacy and conveyed best wishes for his future endeavors both on and off the court, emphasizing that he will always remain a valued member of the Lakers family. In response, LeBron himself wrote on social media, “No, THANK YOU! Truly a honor to wear the 💜💛 while trying to continuing the greatness & legacies that came before me! Hope I made a few proud during my stint. 🙏🏾🫡👑,” signaling his appreciation for the Lakers organization and its supporters.
Amid the ongoing discussions about LeBron’s career and the broader reactions from fans and analysts, the focus for many remains on how the family manages public scrutiny and protects the integrity of the supportive communities they’ve cultivated. Savannah, for her part, continues to emphasize gratitude for the “very positive” network around her podcast and family, while remaining candid about the challenges that come with high-profile public attention. As LeBron embarks on the next chapter of his career elsewhere, his wife’s reflections—both on the personal toll of criticism and the importance of nurturing a constructive fan community—offer a window into how a family navigates fame, legacy, and the ever-changing landscape of professional basketball.
