Former Buffalo Bills edge rusher Von Miller might be aiming to finish his NFL career with his hometown team. After his one-year stint with the Washington Commanders expired, Miller remains a free agent and has yet to gain significant traction on the open market. With only a few weeks left before training camps open, he appeared to hint at his preferred destination.
NBC Sports highlighted that Miller posted a photo of himself wearing a Dallas Cowboys jersey accompanied by a “shhh” emoji. Miller grew up near Dallas and recently shared with SB Nation’s R.J. Ochoa that he would love to play for his hometown team. “I grew up here in Dallas,” Miller said. “I’ve always had a special place in my heart for the Dallas Cowboys. If I played for the Dallas Cowboys this year, I [would] only have to drive 20 minutes to work. This would be the first time that my mom and dad don’t have to fly to every single game. My mom has been to every single game that I’ve ever played in, and she’ll be able to drive to all the home games, and you know I got so many family members here. My kids are here. My family is here; [my] girlfriend is here. Everybody’s here. It’d just be easy to work it out, so you never really know.”
Miller’s tenure with the Bills was inconsistent. He started the 2022 season strong but then suffered a season-ending ACL tear. Upon his return, he struggled to recapture his earlier form, contributing little in 2023 before facing a suspension in 2024 amid domestic assault allegations. The Bills released him after the 2024 season, and he joined the Commanders for one year—a move he now says he regrets. Miller had initially been excited about teaming with quarterback Jayden Daniels and a playoff-caliber squad, but the Commanders regressed, while Miller’s other potential destination, the Seattle Seahawks, captured a Super Bowl title.
“I felt like Jayden Daniels was poised for another great season with the Commanders,” Miller stated, via NBC Sports. “His rookie season went all the way to the NFC Championship, and last year, he dealt with injuries, not just at the quarterback position, but across the board. Those are the kinds of things you can’t always predict about a team.”
The Bills have continued their search for a game-breaking edge rusher, signing top defensive talent with their early draft picks this year. They invested their premier pick in edge rusher T.J. Parker, whom NFL.com’s Tom Blair highlighted as having a strong chance to contribute immediately as a rookie. Blair named Parker among ten rookies with the best odds to make an immediate impact this season, underscoring the Bills’ ongoing push to strengthen the position at the edge.
